For the ninth consecutive year, TEDxThessaloniki brought the TED experience to Thessaloniki, maintaining the non-profit nature and innovative spirit of TED.

On the 21st April 2018, TEDxThessaloniki invited us to take part in a celebration of the human spirit, under the theme “Avenues”.

Every day we travel along real and imaginary avenues. We visit new places or we return to familiar ones. We come closer to people or we distance ourselves from them.

Ideas, like avenues, have the power to bridge distances or estrange. Ideas have driven human-kind to triumphant progress, they’ve shown us the way to explore the wonderful world within us and around us. They inspired us to create art that touches the soul and moves the spirit. Ηowever, throughout the course of history there have been ideas that have led to unimaginable disaster, hatred, wars and intolerance. We are shaped by the ideas we choose to hear, exchange, endorse and live by.

Duting that day we heard from speakers whose work and achievements pave the way that will take us to the future. We marveled at the art of talented performers. We met new people, we created new networks, we considered our place in the world and we took the first step down the road least travelled by: the one that takes us closer to the fellow humans standing next to us.
